Ozone therapy is a new exceptional high-efficiency medicament-free way of medical treatment with antibacterial, antiviral, fungicidal, immunostimulant, anti-hypoxidal, cytostatic and desintoxicating effects. It is characterized by good endurance and actual absence of side-effects.
The pathogenetical effect of ozone therapy is due to high oxidating power of ozone. This provides a double-sided mechanism of its action: first, local with disinfectant antibacterial, antiviral and fungicidal action, and second, systemic acting metabolically on protein-lipidic complexes in plasma and cell membranes and leading to P02 increase, transformation and synthesis of biologically active substances, improvement in activity of immunocompetent cells, in flow properties and oxygen-carrying function of the blood.
Ozone therapy is used in surgery, therapeutics, neurology, gynecology, dermatology, and urology.
Nizhny Novgorod was the first city in Russia where the use of ozone in medicine was started. Today the Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy is the research and educational center on the ozone therapy. The ozone treatment is one of the main focuses in the research activities of the Academy. The central research laboratory and 8 clinical chairs collaborate in the investigations of the ozone therapy. 10 Doctors of Science and 25 PhDs take part in this work. More than 200 scientific papers have been published on the ozonetherapy with 30 dissertations and 20 patents among them.
The major direction in the scientific efforts of the chairs of the new medical technologies and clinical laboratory diagnostics are the problems of the investigation of ozone biological effects and their applications to clinical practice.
